natural treatment for
Improved Sleep & Anxiety Relief

Stress, anxiety and sleep disorders affect over 40 million Americans a year

I would venture a guess that number has recently doubled post-pandemic.

If you are experiencing restlessness, rapid heartbeat, upset stomach, difficulty concentrating, headache, irritability, sleeplessness, fatigue, sweating, and muscle tension, you are not alone.

if you are looking to improve your sleep and alleviate your anxiety,
Natural Solutions are Available

Many rely on prescription drug and over the counter medications to provide relief from their symptoms and while these can help temporarily, a majority of people don’t respond well to ongoing drug treatment because of the side effects, eventual tolerance, and increased sensitivity to their concentrated chemical nature.

Pharmaceuticals build up in your system and ultimately tax your liver, kidneys and other vital organs. They are extremely hard to discontinue without uncomfortable side effects, and you will likely need a natural alternative to medication to help you taper off.

It’s Important to Note

that anxiety and sleep issues are not only due to a biochemical imbalance, but are the result of deeper spiritual issues, so addressing with drugs alone is a not a long-term solution.

This is where acupuncture and herbal medicine can be helpful.

Chinese medicine has been supporting people with their mental health for centuries.

A study at Georgetown University unveiled that acupuncture actually slows the body’s production of stress hormones and it has a protective effect against the body’s response to stress.

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America reported that evidence for the use of acupuncture to treat anxiety disorders is strong and The University of York reported physical and mental health benefits from acupuncture lasted three months after the conclusion of treatment.

After working with hundreds of anxiety and sleep-deprived patients, I know Chinese medicine, nutritional supplementation, meditation, and exercise can offer tremendously helpful support in healing the root causes of this epidemic. It accounts for not only biochemical factors, but also energetic, nutritional, and spiritual influences as well.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture works by balancing the flow of internal life force energy in the body. Anxiety is typically a byproduct of weak energy in the heart or kidneys, according to Chinese medical theory. Other symptoms such as low back pain, heart palpitations, insomnia, irritability, or nightmares commonly accompany anxiety.

There are a number of Chinese herbal formulas that can work wonders for anxiety disorders. Each individual will present with unique symptoms, so your acupuncturist will help you find a formula that is right for your constitution. Many Western herbs like chamomile, valerian, passion flower and kava can also be helpful. It’s best to work with a qualified herbalist to find the right herbs and dosage for you.

Nutrition

One of the most important nutritional considerations with anxiety and sleep is to maintain stable blood sugar throughout the day.

Many anxious patients suffer from hypoglycemia. They often eat refined carbohydrates and drink coffee to start the day, only to experience the typical ‘crash’ around 2-4pm. To keep the blood sugar stable, begin the day with a high protein breakfast such as eggs, turkey bacon, whole oats, or smoothies with whey or goat protein in them. Eat a low glycemic snack every 2-3 hours. I have some wonderful coffee alternatives I can share with you to break the habit and give your body the energy and rest it needs.
