I hope this finds you healthy and settling into a routine of acceptance and awareness in our new world. Some days are easier than others, and sometimes you hit rock bottom, right? I just returned from a week of camping in the Southern Utah desert- a magical expansion of copper red landscapes paired with sapphire blue skies and a place that always seems to cleanse and lift my spirit. I now refer to it as my soul sanitizer – as some of us are growing weary of all that hand cleaner 🙂
As I rode my bike over miles of open trails and sandstone staircases, along rims of magnificent deep tiered canyons carved from millions of years of natural wind and water destruction and regeneration, I was reminded that life is always a process of breaking down and rebuilding. Even the vibrant desert flowers blooming up through the cacti and dry parched earth are there to show us that beauty is possible in even the harshest conditions. At night Venus, the planet of Love and Beauty, shown so bright in the dark skies it seemed to take over the full moon’s stage and try to dispel all the fear present in the world. Mother Earth is speaking to us right now and asking us to choose Love over Fear– I hope we are listening.
I wish I could have taken you all with me to experience this grace and serenity, but I’ve brought it home inside me to share. If you can’t take a drive, hike or walk somewhere outdoors that brings you similar peace today, find a picture of it and put it on your device screens or wall. Or bring your favorite scent of nature into your home through essential oils or plants. Connecting with nature is incredibly healing.
To assist with your healing and renewed energy I am now scheduling Private Acupuncture treatments at the clinic, staggered so multiple patients will not be in the clinic at the same time. Limited Community treatments are available for multiple family members in the same home who can be treated together.
For your safety I will require hand-washing before entering the clinic, face coverings, and will not treat cold or flu symptoms or any feverish conditions. I will wipe down all surface areas after each patient, change linens, and maintain appropriate distance other than to put your needles in while wearing my face covering.
If you are unable to come in for acupuncture treatment, here are a few acupressure points you can try at home:
- The spot between your eyebrows
- Webbed space between your thumb and forefinger
- Base of your wrist, the crease where your hand meets your arm
- Two points on the base of your skull, where your head meets your neck
Holding these points for 30 seconds to five minutes will help release tension in your body, providing a sense of calm, and enhancing sleep. For added effect, you can press these points and massage in a small circular motion. I can show you more of these points and demonstrate in an online TeleHealth consult.
I’ve also found one of the best ways to reconnect with yourself and unwind is to completely unplug from social media and all electronic devices. Much of our angst comes from other people and there’s a lot of hysteria going around that can trigger feelings of anxiety and panic. We all need time away from the collective stress. Here are some ideas:
- Set daily times where you don’t use any devices or screens
- Switch off your phone 2 hours before bedtime
- Create a healthy morning and bedtime routine that includes meditation, movement and reading/writing on paper
