Embracing Today- A Fresh Perspective for 2025

by | Jan 2, 2025 | Uncategorized

A favorite place for reflection, near my home in Colorado

It’s the new year and also time to reveal my word for 2025!

I usually kick off January with resolutions and goals for the year ahead, but as I flowed through my yoga class on New Years Eve, the word TODAY rose up as what matters for real happiness, and even long-term success.  In our fast-paced, technology-driven world filled with distractions and future anxieties, prioritizing today is what I believe leads to big changes in our personal and professional lives.

For me, today means mindfulness- being more aware of my current thoughts, feelings and surroundings, and how my personal interpretation of them guides my every action, or inaction.  As I try to stay present to my internal state, I am reminded the mind changes from day to day, from hour to hour, and any given experience is usually very temporary.   This is kind of a relief, isn’t it?   It prevents me from going down a rabbit hole thinking I need to act on every passing thought or emotion, and it also guides me to wait a few days to make bigger decisions with more sound, heart-centered clarity.

Today also means daily gratitude, and savoring the small things, like the first sips of my tea or coffee in the morning, or a walk outside enjoying the mountains and fresh air solo or with friends.  These micro moments and connections with others are what nourish me for the larger life tasks ahead.

Over the years I’ve witnessed so many people (including myself) suffer from depression- rumination over the past, and anxiety- worry and fear about the future.  These mental states rule society now, and are only perpetuated in a world of online social comparison.   How do we break free from our past and our future self, if they are trapping us in a state of dis-ease?

It sounds trite, but it’s true- living in the present and today is the best way I’ve found to recenter and connect with more joy in life.

As a plant medicine facilitator and eternal student I am learning more about the wisdom of letting go and just being more in the moment, letting today be my greatest gift and goal.   This doesn’t mean I don’t have plans, strategies, or desires, and it also doesn’t mean I don’t look out for my future self.  Today is just an energetic state I am committed to living in more often so the goodness of life is up front and center right now, and not hidden behind future agendas and dreams that could easily change, often without warning.  The only thing I can truly guide and appreciate is what is happening today.

I would love to hear what your word is for 2025, or even for today?

Sending you joy today and always,

Amie

PS: Today is also the first day psilocybin and other natural medicines are now legal here in Colorado! 🙂
